July 2026 Newsletter

Happy belated Canada Day! Hopefully you all had a great holiday and got to enjoy some of the spectacular weather we have been having.  Below are a few updates and pieces of information on the coming season as well as a look ahead at an exciting event taking place right in the curling club!

Events and Bonspiels

The event schedule for the upcoming season has been released! Some dates are subject to change but do not worry, you will be notified if they do get changed. Registration for Bags to Brooms is open now! This event is a great way to wrap up your golf season and get ready for the curling season ahead. Registration is $150/person, guaranteeing 18 holes of golf and 2 games of curling along with dinner and live entertainment. You can register your team of 4 here or email manager@cranbrookcurling.ca if you want to register as an individual. Registration for the rest of our bonspiels and events will be opening soon, keep your eyes on our social media to stay updated – I will also be keeping you updated via these emails of course.

Leagues

I have two major updates to deliver on the league front. Firstly, all leagues will now have multiple flights or tiers based on teams’ results during the season. This will ensure that you are playing against teams that are closer to your skill level which will increase competition and reduce the number of games where you don’t even want to look at the scoreboard. The next big update is that Wednesday Open League will now have a playoff to end the season. The winner of the playoffs will be crowned the Cranbrook Curling Club Champion and have the envy of every other curler in the greater Cranbrook area. League registration will be opening very soon, once again stay tuned to our social media for updates.

Volunteering

I would like to express a large thank you to all of those who volunteered for us last season. Although I was not here for it, I have heard nothing but great things about the volunteer base at the club. We will be once again having the $40 volunteer fee this season that you can get back once you have volunteered for 4 hours. I have read about the issues that there were with this system last season, and I am going to work hard to ensure that this year things operate more smoothly. I will be using SignUp for the season to post volunteer opportunities and track hours that individuals have volunteered. I will be keeping this updated regularly and the link to our SignUp page will be posted on our social media and in-person at the club. I will also be keeping you up to date on upcoming volunteer opportunities in these monthly newsletters. I will also be putting into place a system to effectively track and monitor the hours you have volunteered to ensure that you receive your fee back if you have completed the necessary hours. I will be posting some opportunities to volunteer soon as I have booked some school floor curling visits for the fall and could use a hand. On that note, any volunteers who will be working with kids this year must have a valid criminal records check on file. One can be obtained for free from CurlBC at this link: https://curlbc.ca/criminal-record-checks/

Lastly, Thrash Wrestling will be hosting an event here at the Club on August 15th! Tickets can be purchased here
